Freight intelligence provider to US transportation authorities
CPCS is a front runner in the research and application of probe data, supporting critical infrastructure planning, investment, and policy decisions at federal, state, regional, and city levels.
“Put a large droplet of probe data under the microscope, and what you’ll see is the complexities of freight movement,” says Donald Ludlow, CPCS Head of US Advisory.
Freight intelligence provider
- CPCS has its own data-agnostic lab that generates freight intelligence for public and private sector clients.
- CPCS provides impartial guidance on selecting the most suitable data sources for various use cases.
“We make freight data work hard for transportation planners, decision makers, policymakers, and the industry,” adds Donald, who was an organizer of the last four Transportation Research Board’s (TRB) Innovations in Freight Data Workshops (including for 2023), and the past TRB Chair of the Freight Transportation Data Committee (2012-2018).
In over 10 years working with Department of Transportations (DOTs) and Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs), CPCS has established itself as a go-to source of freight and logistics intelligence and advisory services on all things freight related.
Advancing freight knowledge
CPCS is also a recognized producer of practical knowledge.
The latest contribution is a “state-of-the-practice” study on the use of probe data for freight planning and operations for TRB through its National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP).
This big picture report filled a big gap. It brings together existing research and agency perspectives to provide an overview of the full spectrum of probe data applications, including the nuances associated with its use to address a wide range of freight planning, policy, and programming issues.
- In 2023, CPCS presented the report’s findings at the TRB’s Innovations in Freight Data Workshop, demonstrating to DOTs and MPOs how they can strengthen the link between their transportation planning to the businesses moving freight.
