CPCS discusses river transport with Congolese authorities
CPCS speaks with Congo’s minister in charge of waterways and river economy on the need for a master plan for river transport.
CPCS, a management consultancy specialized in transport infrastructure and public-private partnerships, was in Brazzaville to express interest in helping the Congolese government strengthen its transport infrastructure. CPCS held discussions with several Congolese administrations on the implementation of projects, notably in the river transport sector.

Key points
- CPCS and Minister Guy Georges Mbaka met on 17 July 2024.
- The main topic discussed was CPCS’s potential participation in the Central Africa Regional Waterways Project (PRACAC), an initiative the World Bank is financing.
- PRACAC aims to improve transport corridors in Central Africa. It also aims to strengthen trade, socio-economic inclusion, adaptation to climate change and infrastructure resilience along the sections of the river and road corridor linking the Republic of Congo and the Central African Republic.
- The Congolese news site Les Dépêches de Brazzaville reports that CPCS “benefits from a fairly extensive network of international partners who will be willing to lend a hand to the various structures and contribute to the initiatives that are being implemented.”
River transport strategy in Congo
Christian Eléazard, Senior Advisor, Francophone Africa, CPCS
“Structuring and modernising transport on the Congo River is a priority for this government, which wants to boost the country’s economy. An updated national transport plan and a master plan for river transport are ways to achieve this.”
Also according to Les Dépêches de Brazzaville, the CPCS advisor mentioned that CPCS had:
- “already had discussions with the Ministry of the Budget, which was very open to the idea of updating the Congo’s national transport plan. I think that the Ministry of Transport will also be ready to embark on this adventure. So, once things have been clearly defined, we’ll be able to give you more information about the implementation schedule. […] we are ready to support partners in their search for partnerships.”

Transport strategies in Africa
CPCS has deep experience in Africa, having notably implemented the national transport strategy in Cameroon in 2018 and 2021, which has led to concrete projects. CPCS also contributed to Madagascar’s National Transport Plan. Several of the resulting projects are currently being assessed by donors before being implemented.
“We’re proud of the results achieved through our transport strategies in Africa. These initiatives demonstrate our ability to provide practical, effective and sustainable solutions for the development of transport infrastructure,” concludes Christian Éléazard.
