Caroline Akoth

Spatial Data Scientist, Infrastructure Analytics

Caroline has more than six years of experience in the geospatial field. 

She has recently helped the United Nations Human Settlement Programme in data collection, analysis and visualization. Before that, she was supporting data application in decision making in various industries such as social work and children welfare, health and urban planning.

Caroline volunteers as an operations and advocacy officer for Women in GIS, Kenya. In this role, she helps the organization use data for gender equality. She also creates communications and technology-based strategies to promote the work done by women in the organization.

Caroline has been a speaker at spatial data forums such as the internationally acclaimed Free and Open Source Software for Geospatial conference and the State of the Map Conference. She has also participated in geospatial forums hosted by the United Nations. 

Education:

  • 2020: M.Sc. in Geospatial Information Systems and Remote Sensing, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology
  • 2015: Bachelor’s in Environmental Planning and Management, Kenyatta University
