CPCS achieves net-zero again in 2024: Results

Featured image

CPCS, a global provider of infrastructure management consulting services, upholds its net-zero commitment.

Key highlights:

  • For 2024, CPCS neutralized 464.5 tonnes of CO2 equivalent (tCO2eq) through two high-quality Gold Standard-certified carbon offset projects.

  • Air travel was the largest contributor of our firm’s greenhouse gas emissions (73%), followed by office heating and employee commuting to CPCS offices.

  • CPCS advises and supports infrastructure leaders and decision makers worldwide on climate change adaptation and resilience projects in the transport and energy sectors.

Supporting credible offset projects for safe water

Carbon credits purchased support two water projects in Africa:

  • Mozambique Safe Water Project: Rehabilitates, installs, and maintains water infrastructure to reduce the risk of water borne illnesses and the need to boil water for purification. This saves thousands of tonnes of firewood per year and reduces CO2 emissions.

  • Safe Water Systems for Rural Uganda: Distribution of 30,000 Purifaaya ceramic water filters to households. Water filters eliminate the need to boil water for purification, reducing reliance on wood or charcoal.

Note: CPCS’s official emissions for 2024 were 549.5 tons of CO2 equivalent (tCO₂e). The gap in offsets (549.5 – 464.5) is covered by a 85 tCO₂e surplus from the previous year.

CPCS’s Carbon Reduction Plan

CPCS has a Carbon Reduction Plan and is committed to achieving net-zero by 2050. Since 2019, we have implemented the following:

  • Business travel policy: staff are encouraged to combine personal and business travel, thereby reducing the need for additional trips

  • International placement program: supports long-term placements of consultants abroad within the context of project support to reduce the need for travel

  • Hybrid work: requires staff to be in the office two days per week, significantly reducing the frequency of commutes

  • Transit subsidy: CPCS reimburses 25% of public transit costs, up to an annual maximum, making it more affordable for employees to choose commuting options

  • Environment and Social Responsibility Policy: aims to minimize negative environmental and social impacts while creating positive value for the environment, society, and economies

  • Sustainable office practices: CPCS promotes sustainable office practices and prioritizes green office buildings for office leases when feasible

Continuing to advance sustainable practices

Beyond carbon offsets, CPCS champions sustainable solutions by leading climate change-related infrastructure projects. In 2025, CPCS joined the Executive Consultation Group of Blue Dot Network (BDN), an independent entity overseeing the only international certification framework for quality infrastructure. A BDN certification signifies that an infrastructure project is environmentally and socially sustainable, resilient, open and transparent, and economically efficient.

CPCS generates economic, environmental, and social value while also working to reduce the environmental and social impacts associated with its operations. Our firm has been committed to reducing and offsetting its emissions since 2020, and continues to explore further measures to reduce carbon emissions.
